Measure

Tools on the Measure Tab allow the user to calculate distance between map features, and calculate the area within a polygon. These measurements are taken by creating graphic drawings.

The Measure Tab has two measuring tools:  Area, and Distance. Each tool has a number of units to select from (such as feet, meters, sq feet, sq acres).

Distance Tool – This tool calculates the distance between two points on the map by drawing line features on the map. Select the Distance tool and a units dropdown will appear with options for calculating distance in miles, kilometers, feet, and other options. Click in the map to draw a starting point. Then click at another point to measure the distance between the two points. A green flag will be placed at each location, and each subsequent click on the map will add to the total distance between the first and last points. Double-click to complete a measurement. The total distance will be displayed in the Measure Tab.

Area Tool – This tool calculates the area within a drawn polygon feature on the map. When the "Select the Area tool is selected", a "Units" drop down menu will appear with options for calculating area in acres, square miles, and other units of measure. Click in the map to draw the vertexes around an area and double-click to complete the polygon. The area of the drawn feature will be displayed in the Measure Tab.
